Canoe

Canadian Canoes are relatively wide boats and are one of the most versatile paddled craft. Canoes lend themselves well to exploration and adventure, join as either a tandem (better for the less practised and/or family groups) or maybe as a solo paddler - requires a little more skill and energy!

Touring Kayak

If you've ever rented a kayak to go out on the lake or down a calm stream, you've probably been in a recreational kayak. Our touring kayaks are equipped with features for longer paddling adventures to provide added comfort such as adjustable footrests and backrests. With great storage they're ideal for longer adventures with large bulkhead storage for clothes, food, camping gear etc.

Double-sit-on-top Kayak

These are constructed as sealed vessels and, as the name suggests, the paddler or paddlers sit on seats moulded into the deck of the kayak. For novice or recreational paddlers this is more comfortable and more accessible than getting inside a kayak, and there is no feeling of confinement. These are available as one person, two person or premium sit on top.

Premium Single-sit-on-top Kayak

The premium kayak is a sleek vessel that offers the speed of the touring kayak, but with the ease of the sit on top.

Please note this is not a private tour. Although on occasion you may find you are the only group on the tour, you can expect others to have booked the same tour as well. However it will be a small, intimate group tour, with numbers typically peaking at 8 people, in a variety of different bookable craft.

We do require all under 18s to be accompanied on the water by an over 18 at all times when hiring craft.

We do not have a minimum age for children going out on the water with adults, but we do require them to be able to support themselves unaided in changeable conditions, and to wear well fitted safety equipment such as buoyancy aids. Please call the shop if you are unsure, before making your reservation.

A PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN OF AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE MUST BE PRESENT ON THE WATER AT ALL TIMES

  • Single sit-on-tops - max. 85kg
  • Double sit-on-tops - max. 180kg

Additionally you must be able to wear a buoyancy aid comfortably and safely.

  • An instructor!
  • The craft, paddle and buoyancy aid
  • Backrest if hiring a sit-on-top
  • A dry bag, if requested

PROOF OF RESERVATION AND PERSONAL ID WILL BE REQUIRED ON THE DAY

  • We require everybody to be wearing a T-shirt under their buoyancy aid. Clothing also needs to allow for freedom of movement. Even with a buoyancy aid on, getting back onto a boat can be tricky with restrictive clothing.
  • We do NOT allow any DENIM or SUEDE to be worn out on the water, as it would not meet the criteria above.
  • Bring any clothing and footwear you do not mind getting wet. A full change of clothing is advisable (just in case you go for a dip!)
  • In warmer weather bring sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water (no single use plastics please!)
  • In cooler weather extra fleeces and waterproofs are advisable

You can cancel your activity, but you need to do this AT LEAST 48 hours BEFORE THE BOOKED START TIME, by calling us on 015394 44451. You will be fully refunded.

Windermere Canoe Kayak might need to cancel your booking. If this happens we'll always do our best to offer alternative dates or times, and if this doesn't suit then we'll refund you in full.

Can I re-arrange if I don't make it? Unfortunately not. As these are instructor led sessions with a limited capacity we are unable to offer an alternative date if you are not able to make it on the day.

What if I'm running late? As these are instructor led sessions it is essential that you are there 15 minutes in advance to join the tour. Please check your travel time, allow sufficient time for traffic, parking and walking to the Jetty Museum. Your tour may start without you if you are late, and no refund nor rescheduling can be offered in this event.

Weather limitations - Obviously, being surrounded by mountains and being situated in the UK we have our fair share of bad weather. Every now and again the wind picks up to an unpleasant level, and we have to cancel hire for the day. If you are unsure about the weather, please ring us before journeying to avoid disappointment. We are happy to allow experienced paddlers out in most conditions – just speak to our staff.
