Windermere Canoe Kayak Annual Summer Solstice Race 2018, 23rd-24th June.
The Windermere Summer Solstice Lake Race is an exciting event held on England’s longest lake, at the heart of the beautiful Lake District National Park. The race involves paddlers of all abilities completing either the half or full length of Windermere and open to an array of boats from surf skis to canoes to stand-up paddleboards.
Over the years we have seen everything from whitewater rafts and dragon boats, through to sit-on- top kayaks and wooden canoes. The aim of the game is to get as many paddlers involved, enjoying England’s longest lake on the longest day of the year (or as near to as possible) – some are there just for the challenge of the journey and some to beat the race record!
These are options for paddlers to choose from:
1 - LONG COURSE (10.5 Miles) – (Experienced only) Taking place on SATURDAY 23RD JUNE from Waterhead, Ambleside to Fell Foot Park. This event is also part of the GB SUP Race series and results from the long course on Saturday will count towards GB SUP Series points.
2 - SHORT COURSE (5.5 Miles)- Based from Fell Foot, this will be a loop course i.e.start and finish same location and will take place on the SUNDAY 24TH JUNE (Most participants with reasonable experience)
3 - LONG DISTANCE COURSE - new for 2018 !! Again based from Fell Foot with the aim of paddling north to Waterhead and returning !! Not for the faint-hearted, this will take place on the SUNDAY 24TH JUNE also.
There will be a coach provided to offer a shuttle from Fell Foot(finish) to Waterhead(start) on Saturday 23rd for the long course participants to get everyone to the race start on time. This allows you to leave your boat at the start and drop your vehicle at the end. The coach will return you to the start for race briefing. (first come first served basis for the coach so please let us know when registering).
We are also running a demo weekend at Fell Foot park where suppliers and brands will be there to help advise the ‘right’ boat or board for you. Entry is free and participants are able to demo a wide variety of Kayaks, SUP’s, Canoes and Paddles.
