National Go Canoeing Week 27th May - 4th June 2017

Take part in the National Go Canoeing Week 30,000 mile challenge

National Go Canoeing Week is an event run by British Canoeing from 27th May to 4th June 2017.  We are hosting some events to help you take part.

The aim for go canoeing Week is to encourage as many people as possible to venture out on the water and paddle as many miles as they can.  One mile or one hundred: it all counts because once you have clocked up a mile or more you can log your miles on the national Go Canoeing website and help them achieve their national 30,000 mile target.
Anyone can be involved.
If you have never picked up a paddle before don't worry! We will help you get safely on the water so you can discover the joys of our fantastic sport!
Or if you are a more seasoned paddler then you can still take part by logging your miles and adding to the total distance travelled.
All forms of paddlesports are celebrated; including stable open canoes, sit on top kayaks, fun playboats or swifter touring kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.
How to take part
There are 3 ways to take part with Windermere Canoe Kayak as your hosts:
1.  Book a boat or a SUP and paddle one of our "Challenge Routes" on Windermere (see below).
2. Book on to one of our "Go Canoing Tours".
3. Clock up some mileage yourselves then log your distance via the National Go Canoeing Week website.  Please let us know what you have achieved by sending us an email or posting to our Facebook page.
Help MacGregor achieve his goal and follow his virtual journey to Rio
For this year’s National Go Canoeing Week the Go Canoeing mascot, MacGregor, will be sent on a on a virtual journey around the UK. He will be visiting important paddle sport landmarks as well as clubs and centres to improve his paddling skills.
Once MacGregor has completed his tour of the UK he will be heading on to Rio and the Olympics! You can follow MacGregors journey on this site or through Twitter and Facebook.

This journey will total 30,000 miles and MacGregor needs your paddle power to get him moving.

Our Challenge Routes

Windermere Canoe & Kayak will be running the One-mile and Three-mile Challenge Routes from two locations on Windermere. The first one from will start and finish at our shop base which is located at Ferry Nab on the east coast of the lake and the second one will be running out of Fell Foot, a magnificent National Trust property on the southern tip of the lake, which boasts sweeping lawns and stunning mountain views.

The Challenge Routes at both locations are open for anyone to take part in, a range of equipment will be available to hire and friendly staff that can help you get on and show you where the routes go. It’s up to you to choose which distance you want to complete depending on how much of a challenge you want to take on. You don’t need any previous experience to take part and the focus is on having fun, so it’s a great opportunity to get your friends or family involved. Alternatively, if you have your own boat and equipment, you can just bring along and complete the route.
