Bike Hire from Bowness-on-Windermere
The Lake District has some of the best mountain biking trails in the UK. From our base, on the shores of Lake Windermere, you have a choice of routes suitable for all levels of fitness and ability.
All our Bikes, Tag-a-longs and Trailers are brand new as of 2016. We like to keep everything in our hire fleet looking fresh and working well so we try to replenish the fleet every season.
For a scenic ride without technical difficulty, we reccomend the western shoreline track alongside Windermere to Wray Castle (with cafe!). Here the track is not too rough or steep and offer plenty of opportunities to rest and take in views or practice your stone-skimming skills!
For more of a distance ride you can follow the quiet lanes out towards Hawkshead Village, alongside Esthwaite Water before heading back down to the car ferry. This route is around 12.4 miles long and we would allow 3-4 hours to complete the circuit (at a leisurely pace). This route offers some easy off road cycling as well as some cycling on the quieter roads towards Hawkshead.
We can also suggest more technical routes in the Claife Heights area and beyond. All are accessible from our doorstep on Windermere.
If you have other routes in mind, just let us know where you are headed before you set off.
Helmets are provided and must be worn when hiring our bikes. You will also receive a puncture repair kit and a route map to keep you on the right track.
